Put your rent to work

Your biggest monthly payment should help build your credit history. Property Copilot reports your rent-payment history to Equifax Canada, giving the rent you pay a place on your credit file.

Why rent reporting matters

You can pay rent on time for years and have nothing to show for it

Rent is often a renter’s biggest monthly payment, but it does not automatically appear on their credit file. Without rent reporting, years of payment history can remain invisible.

Property Copilot gives that history somewhere to go. Once a renter opts in, their recorded rent payments are reported monthly to Equifax Canada and become part of their credit profile.

Manual tracking

Record each month as paid on time, paid late, or missed in your Property Copilot account.

Equifax reporting

Eligible payment history is reported to Equifax after the renter consents.

For Landlords and property managers

Give tenants another reason to pay on time

When rent payments become part of a renter’s credit history, paying on time carries more weight. Offer a benefit renters value without changing how rent is paid or adding another cost to your business.

It costs you nothing

The renter pays the $5 monthly subscription. There is no charge to the landlord, property manager, or owner.

Renters choose to participate

Rent reporting is tenant-initiated and requires their consent. You simply confirm the rental details.

Offer a benefit renters ask for

Give renters a practical way to build their credit profile while strengthening the value you offer throughout the tenancy.

For Renters

Build credit without taking on more debt

Credit history is usually built through credit cards and loans. Rent reporting gives renters another option by using a payment they already make every month.

Once enrolled, their rent-payment history is reported to Equifax Canada. This can be especially valuable for newcomers, younger renters, and anyone establishing or rebuilding their Canadian credit profile.

Use the rent you already pay
No new loan, credit card, or additional debt is required.

Build a Canadian payment history
Reported rent gives Equifax another source of payment information for your credit file.

How it works

From opt-in to Equifax in 4 steps

A simple flow from consent to monthly reporting.

Step 1

Renter enrolls and gives consent

The renter opts in and provides consent for Property Copilot to report eligible payment history to Equifax, and subscribes for $5 per month

Step 2: You confirm the rental details

The landlord or property manager confirms the tenancy and monthly rent amount. It takes one click and costs nothing.

Step 3: Property Copilot reports each month

The renter’s recorded payment history is reported to Equifax Canada monthly.

Step 4

Renter and landlord responsibilities

The renter pays the $5 monthly fee and the landlord keeps payment records current.

Know what you’re signing up for

Rent reporting only begins after the renter chooses to participate and provides consent. Before enrolling, renters see the monthly cost, confirmed rent amount, and the information that will be reported.

What consent is required?

Rent reporting only begins after the renter chooses to participate and provides consent. Before enrolling renters see the monthly cost and rent amount.

What data is shared?

Property Copilot shares the rent-payment status recorded by the landlord and the renter's identifying information needed for Equifax matching. No other lease or application data is shared. The data shared is limited to what Equifax requires for reporting.

Who is responsible for accuracy?

The landlord is responsible for recording accurate payment status each month. The renter is responsible for providing accurate identifying information and maintaining their enrollment. Property Copilot reports the information as recorded.

Can reporting be cancelled?

The renter can cancel at any time. Cancellation stops future reporting but does not remove payment history already reported to Equifax.

Does reporting guarantee a credit score change?

No. Reporting builds credit history, not guarantees. Reported rent can contribute to a renter’s credit profile. Property Copilot cannot promise a credit-score increase, loan approval, or other credit outcome.

What payments are reported?

Every payment status is reported. On-time, late, and missed payment statuses recorded for the tenancy are included in monthly reporting.

FAQs

Common questions about rent reporting, pricing, consent, and cancellation.

Who is eligible?

Renters with an active lease in Property Copilot can enroll if their landlord records payment status. The renter must be in Canada and provide the identifying information Equifax requires. Eligibility does not guarantee that Equifax will accept the reported history.

How much does it cost?

Rent reporting costs $5 per month, paid by the renter. The fee applies while the renter is enrolled. There is no cost to the landlord for offering the option.

How is consent given?

The renter gives consent directly in Property Copilot before any reporting begins. Consent is recorded and can be reviewed in the application. Reporting stops if consent is withdrawn according to the cancellation rules.

How often is payment status reported?

Eligible payment history is reported to Equifax monthly. The landlord must record the payment status for the month before it can be reported. Reporting follows the schedule shown in the application.

What happens with missed payments?

If the landlord records a payment as unpaid, that status is reported to Equifax for that month. Property Copilot does not edit or soften the payment record. The renter should contact the landlord about any disputed status.
